Why I don’t Believe in New Year’s Resolutions
Aloha Friends! And Happy New Year!
LET'S TALK ABOUT NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS.
I DON'T BELIEVE IN THEM. HERE'S WHY.
Resolutions are generally specific, measurable, and generally cause us to judge our behaviors as "good" or "bad." Intentions on the other hand are more fluid, compassionate, and embodied.
In other words, we think about resolutions from our mind, whereas we feel intentions in our heart, gut, mind, body, and soul.
Generally resolutions are short lived. Intentions, on the other hand, are long lasting and sustainable. Why? Because they are embodied and come from within.
So as you reflect on 2022 and ring in 2023, I encourage you to consider setting an embodied intention for the new year.
Close your eyes.
Place one hand on your heart, and one hand on your belly.
Take a deep breath in.
And a deep breath out.
Repeat these deep slow inhalations and exhalations until your breathing slows and your mind becomes quiet.
Be in your own stillness.
Cultivate gratitude for all that you are and for what you have accomplished this past year.
Now tune into that inner knowing inside of you, and just listen.
Not from a place of forcing, but from a place of effortlessness, ease, and grace.
Allow the answers to these questions to bubble up from deep within you.
What are you most proud of yourself for?
How did you grow and evolve this past year?
How do you want to step out of your comfort zone into your growth zone in this new year?
What are you longing for in this new year?
Who do you want to be in 2023?
How do you want to feel?
How do you want to show up in your family, as a partner, parent, daughter, professional?
What are you letting go of and releasing from 2022?
And what are you calling in for 2023?
Listen to what arises from your heart, from your gut, from your soul.
This is your embodied truth, your inner wisdom, your highest elite self.
Allow her to speak to you, gently, softly.
Through words, images, sensations, symbols, or whatever is coming through for you.
She will not lead you astray.
Allow your embodied intention for 2023 to arise from within as you sit in your own sacred silence.
I invite you to share below in the comments below anything that came up for you as you sat with this post so we can hold space for each other...
And if you enjoyed this guided meditation, and want more, I invite you to join me for a very special VIRTUAL WOMEN'S RETREAT on January 22, 2023.
This is going to be like nothing I've done before because I am partnering with Dr. Libby Kemkaran-Thompson, who is a neuropsychologist that coaches top leaders on the neuroscience of success.
Libby will lead the first half of the retreat from the UK during the wee hours of my morning in Hawaii, and I will takeover at sunrise to guide us through an oceanfront meditation followed by am oceanside gentle yoga flow, restorative practice, yoga nidra, and san kalpa (intention setting) practice for this new year.
SO YOU ARE BASICALLY GETTING TWO NEUROCOACHES FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!
Trust me, you won't want to miss this virtual experience. It will be like your own mini-retreat to paradise, and it will be recorded in case you can't make it live.
